A sensitive coming-of-age story from a director who resolutely strips all clichés from her rendering of the heightened emotions of youth. Tellingly, Ingrid Veninger called her production house pUNK Films. Here, her rebel is the boisterous Kate, who thirteen-year-old Bea meets one sultry Ontario summer. The two experience an intense, feverish friendship that mirrors the whirlwind of their transition into adulthood. Porcupine Lake debunks the stereotypes of the teen film to imagine a new — and daringly authentic — model of a young girl’s awakening into selfhood.
